BASIC SCHOOL UGANDA REPORT

After walking around Parliament with the cross in Kampala, Uganda Saturday October 6, 2012 we rose early Sunday morning to catch the express bus to Mbale.  When we reached the middle of town all the roads were blocked for the Independence celebration.    We ended up on the non express bus which left 45 minutes late and took 5 hrs instead of 3 to reach Mbale.  Alfred met us (Henry, David, and Sam our faithful guide) and took us to our accommodations where we met Jane the lady who directs Active Blessing Uganda.  They are the ones who work with street kids and are sponsoring the school.

The next morning we walked about 10 minutes to a house that had no electricity called The White House (It’s not White).  A room had been set up there with plastic lawn chairs and a blackboard.  We passed out the printed copies of the lessons we had brought with us along with ziplock gallon bags to put them in so they wouldn’t get messed up.  After some delay because the cook had made breakfast late we were joined by 15 young men eager to learn about ministry.  Some had walked over an hour to get there.

The overall focus of the BASIC School is to prepare them to be “Ministers of the Gospel.”  This may be different for each one of them, but the principles of ministry we teach will apply where ever God calls them.  The last few days we have focused their personal walk with The Lord, and how they can teach others about having a personal relationship with Jesus.  The students seem eager to learn and are actively participating during the sharing we have during our classroom.  Our prayer is that each one will finish the studies we will be teaching during the next four weeks.
